Di Skelly Heron well known Gold Coast Artist and Teacher believes that the art of natural food preparation is being lost in today’s busy fast paced, fast food world. Di is very concerned that the prophesy predicting that, “today’s generation of children may be the first not to out live their parents” may very well come true if something is not done about improving the nutrition of the general population. Di says “ If this problem is to be solved we need to get people back into their kitchens and teach them the joy of creating meals using nutritious natural food” Di, a great cook, is so committed to this belief she and her husband Graeme, with advice from a Gold Coast Nutritionist wrote a book about it.

For a number of years now I have been very interested in health through eating – I have been a vegan for the last eight years and vegetarian for twelve years before that. Even though I followed a vegetarian lifestyle I was still eating cheese – lots of – and seafood, and numerous health issues beset me during the ‘90’s; my problems just seemed to escalate, and I was always at the doctor’s - take this pill, take that pill, get this script filled – no mention about nutrition.
I eventually decided to take control of my health myself. I eliminated all animal products from my diet and stopped taking all medication. Working with a great Naturopath (who also believed illness is caused by what goes in the mouth), within six months of serious detoxing, under her guidance my health had turned around. I have not visited a doctor for any health issues in the time since going vegan.
Following our move from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast five years ago, I was the owner of a Health Food Shop with my husband until August this year when we sold. We concentrated on selling healthy food in the form of fresh juices, veggie burgers and salad rolls/sandwiches. Vitamins and food supplements were also a part of our stock.
It was through our shop that I first came across Turn Over a New Leaf, and we did the detox program together in February. Knowing how good the program was I was easily able to sell the book to customers, so that they could achieve the same results that I did. I have to admit that over the last few years, I had slipped a bit from my previous detox.
When the call came out for anyone who was interested, to train as Kitchen Coaches, I put up my hand; knowing that the shop would soon be sold and I would be looking for a career change. So here I am.
I have now completed a second detox program, in conjunction with the six weeks training; am feeling great and ready to take on the world – well maybe just the Sunshine Coast.

I have completed a six-month basic course in Iridology
I am currently studying Australian Bush Flower Essences
and I am trying to live life now according to permaculture principles
